G.F. Handel’s Dettingen Te Deum & Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna
Saturday, November 22 | 7:30PM at Saint Mary’s Cathedral Basilica
We are thrilled to announce our 5th Anniversary Concert!
Musicians and poets from George Frideric Handel to Charles Gounod, Benjamin Britten, and Herbert Howells have written in honour of Saint Cecilia. We follow the rich tradition of musical festivals venerating this most beloved figure.
As the season transitions we present a programme celebrating light and darkness. George Friedrich Handel’s Dettingen Te Deum is a magnificent work of martial celebration. Through powerful arrangements that feature alto, baritone, and bass solos, Handel’s work is a musical monument. Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna is, in the composer’s own words, “an intimate work of quiet serenity centered around a universal symbol of hope, reassurance, goodness and illumination at all levels”. Laurisden has been called “the only American composer in history who can be called a mystic”. This compelling program will feature Andrew Pickett, Counter-Tenor, and Shaylan Burkhart, Bass with the musicians of Ensemble Regale.
