Nick Halley and Richard Baughman present a RHYTHM WORKSHOP

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

5:30 PM

If you’ve ever attended a service at King’s Chapel, chances are you’ve had to sing a bit. If you’re like most folks, you might have a hard time trying to figure out not only how to read the notes in terms of pitch but also rhythmically. Well, if you’ve ever wondered what the difference is between a dotted quarter note and a half note, you’re in luck. This coming Wednesday, April 10th at 5:30pm our very own King’s Chorus director Nick Halley will be leading a rhythm workshop with his long time friend and fellow percussionist Richard Baughman. This workshop is open to all. Cost is $5 or free with the purchase of a ticket to the King’s Chorus upcoming Love Songs for Spring Time concert.

Paul Halley’s LOVE SONGS FOR SPRINGTIME

press release image

A concert in celebration of springtime renewal and awakening. We will be singing Paul Halley’s suite, Love Songs for Springtime, as well as his glorious setting of the Appalachian hymn Wondrous Love. Our dear director could not resist throwing into the program also  works by Gabrielli and Handl as well.

This will be a wonderful adventure of a concert that will bring your heart and mind into the mood of spring (even if our dear province is still holding out against it!).
The Love Songs for Springtime are a rare form of beautiful, playful, story-filled secular texts combined with the sounds of percussion, brass, and organ, all brilliantly set to music that is at once clear and evocative and not too soiled with seriousness.

They have been described by New York Time’s critic Bob Zeidler as “alternately sweet and droll”. He later remarked that Wondrous Love  in ”Halley’s arrangement brings forth the heroic dimension of [the] work”.
